“Aerial Yoga embodies the yogic philosophy of Sthira and Sukha. The Aerial hammock gives support to build strength and stability while allowing for greater internal spaciousness and the sensation of swimming through the air.” - Keri Straka, Lead Trainer

About Our Training

In CGY’s Aerial Yoga program, the grounded tradition of yoga and the ethereal aerial arts unite to create a dynamic and powerful practice.

Just as other props have been incorporated in yoga asana for decades, the aerial hammock can help inform alignment, increase body awareness and can be used as a tool that allows students to “sit with” poses with added support.

Our 60 hour Aerial Yoga Teacher Training will provide trainees the tools and skills required to safely teach aerial yoga poses, design thoughtful sequences, and instruct authentic Aerial Yoga + Restorative Aerial classes.

  Training DETAILS

Module 1: Introduction to aerial Yoga

The Introduction to Aerial Yoga weekend is 17 hours of foundational skills outlining how to use the aerial silk hammock as a prop in the same way that blocks, belts, and blankets are employed in mat-based yoga classes. In this module, the hammock is used to support traditional yoga postures such as downward facing dog, pyramid, and child's pose. Sequences are designed to create a connection to body and breath through variations of classical sun salutations building to more challenging postures that do not require both feet to leave the mat simultaneously.

Module 2: AERIAL YOGA SPECIALTIES

Within the growing field of Aerial yoga there are many distinct specialty classes designed to be inclusive for a variety of populations such as children, teens, low hammock (both gentle and active), and restorative. In the second 17 hour weekend of aerial yoga training participants will learn how to rig the silks safely to accommodate different styles of yoga and how to tailor aerial yoga sequences to be engaging and original. Ample practice time for each style allows participants the opportunity to cue postures effectively and begin to create sequences for different classes.

Module 3: UPLEVELING AERIAL YOGA & EFFECTIVE SEQUENCING

In the final 17 hours of training, participants will begin to learn how to instruct intermediate and advanced aerial yoga postures which include more inversions and acrobatic shapes that allow the silk hammock to provide safety through proper alignment of the fabric as a harness. Additionally participants will learn how design a “beginners” and “all-levels” aerial class including how and when to “up-level” within an all levels aerial yoga class. This session goes in-depth from A-Z how to teach a group aerial yoga class: from safe rigging, to adjusting aerial silks during class, basic assists and the arc of a well-rounded class. Practice teaching includes the culmination of leading an original sequence. Upon completion of the 3rd module, participants are invited to teach community aerial classes for real world experience.
