Speak Your Peace: An Intro to Effective, Compassionate Communication

speak your peace.jpg

Do you find yourself in conflict with the same people over and over again? Do you have a hard time expressing your true needs? Do you wish you could be in dialogue about what matters with people whose thoughts and beliefs differ from yours?

“Speaking your peace” through effective, compassionate communication is a skill you can learn. In this experiential course, yoga teacher and life coach Bridget Keller demonstrates the steps and strategies that participants then practice, so you can:

  • effectively talk about your feelings and your needs
  • listen for the feelings and needs of others
  • safely relate – caringly and compassionately – with loved-ones, friends, and others
  • experience the satisfaction and gratitude of being heard and understood

Join an experienced guide for an introduction to this powerful practice – including both speaking and listening – rooted in the empathy-based model of Nonviolent Communication (NVC) developed by Marshall Rosenberg. NVC asserts that humans share universal needs, and when we know what others are needing, we naturally want to support them in meeting their needs, as well as receive support from others in meeting our needs.

In the safe space of this full-body NVC “starter course,” participants have ample opportunity to practice the steps of the NVC model:

  • observing without judging
  • expressing how you feel about what you have observed
  • sharing what you need in relation to your feelings
  • making doable requests of yourself and others, to meet your needs.

Are you ready to take your yoga practice off the mat and into the world with compassionate communication?

Bridget Keller, Yoga Teacher (RTY-200) and Certified Life Coach, has been a student and practitioner of Nonviolent Communication since 2004. She leads full-body, experiential workshops in the fundamentals of Effective, Compassionate Communication at yoga studios in greater Boston.
