Amrita yoga is a form of vinyasa yoga with influences from Ayurveda, physical therapy, neuroscience, yoga philosophy and psychology, pranayama, and mindfulness. The amrita yoga style emphasizes the bio-mechanics of alignment, anatomy, kinesiology, and rehabilitative processes.
Taught in alignment with the rhythms of nature, Ayurveda teaches that our yoga practice (and our life) ought to be in harmony with the seasons as well as the times of day and our personal life cycles.
Amrita yoga Chandra practices are reflective, like the moon, and elicit the quiet radiance and wisdom we know to be our inner nature. Mindfulness and breathing are woven throughout the practice. Self-study and self-reflection prompts are offered. An afternoon amrita chandra practice nourishes our Vata nature (which, when out of balance, is prone to anxiety, fear, and distraction). To ground vata, we use restorative poses that quiet the mind, poses that address the pelvis and hips, and practices that increase kapha, the most nurturing of the 3 doshas. You can expect to leave class feeling lucid, grounded, calm, and connected to your innate wisdom.
Please note: Vata governs the nervous system and the colon. Both are essential to our mental health. Your practice will be deeper if you come to class uncaffienated and with your last meal ending about 1 pm.
