Blissed Out: Yoga + The Anandamaya Kosha

Trauma-informed yoga teacher, Lauren Turner & Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Sophia Avramides bring together yoga, Ayurveda and full spectrum hemp oil infused body products to explore the 5 Koshas.

According to Vedic texts, there are five layers, sheathes or “Koshas” to our individual existence. The Anandamaya Kosha is the final layer between the self we know and the True Self. Anandamaya Kosha translates to Bliss layer.

This is the aspect of our being which we recognize as deep inner peace and joy. It is the sweetness of life that we feel when the mind is still.

When scientists discovered the human endocannabinoid system in the 1980s, they aptly named the naturally producing neurotransmitter “Anandamide”, the Bliss molecule, after the Sanskrit word Anandamaya.

The human endocannabinoid system helps to regulate several systems of the body including immunity, appetite, mood, etc. If the systems of the body work as a symphony, the endocannabinoid system brings it into harmony.

Our naturally producing anandamine/bliss molecule can be supported by things including activities that give you a “runners high”, CBD (a botanically derived cannabinoid), and even eating chocolate!

The session:

The session will include a brief discussion on the Koshas and then guided “Abhyanga” (Ayurvedic self-massage) where participants can use Ayurvedic herbal salves and oils with full spectrum hemp oil to massage into their neck, shoulders, wrists, legs and feet. Then be followed by a slow flow and restorative based movement practice to liberate tension in the body and mind. Extra time will be set aside for a 20 minute meditation to explore each layer/kosha of the body, one-by-one, before entering a joyful savasana.

Cost: $40 includes samples
