FALL 2018 AERIAL Yoga Teacher Training

More than just a workout or performance, Common Ground Yoga is a practice grounded in yoga philosophy that encourages students to find balance between will and surrender. Our style of practice also helps to cultivate a greater degree of strength and mindfulness. For yoga & fitness instructors who want to bring this amazing practice to their own classes and for aerial yoga students who want to deepen their practice, this two-part training is sure to explore and expand the limits of your existing yoga practice and our training will provide you with the tools necessary to share this amazing experience with others.

Wednesdays July 11th & August 8th @ 7:15pm-8:00pm following Katharine's Aerial Yoga (All Levels) Class



DATES: SEPT 26th-OCT 21st
Meets select Wednesdays and 2 weekend intensives (see full schedule below)

In the first module, students will learn the foundations required to teach a yoga class using the aerial silk as a prop, as well as sequence and instruct aerial yoga basics.

The participants will also:

  • Receive training in proper rigging and maintenance of aerial equipment

  • Learn the various benefits and contraindications for aerial yoga practice

  • Learn how to cue poses and transitions safely and thoroughly

  • Receive an understanding of particular muscle groups activated and stretched in poses

  • Learn modifications as well as progressions for students of varying levels

  • Identify and adjust common aerial misalignments to ensure students' safety

  • Be able to lead a centering at beginning of class and savasana at the end

  • Learn to create aerial sequences, including poses and transitions, that flows seamlessly

As a progression from Module 1, in Module 2 students will gain the skills to teach more intermediate postures and expand their overall repertoire of aerial poses and transitions. Learning how to incorporate these new poses in a mixed-levels class, you'll be equipped to teach Elements3 Yoga's Level 1 and All Levels classes.

You will learn:

  • How to teach intermediate postures, with variations and modifications

  • How to sequence a mixed-level aerial class, using a theme to build up to 1-2 peak poses

  • Safe assists/adjustments for intermediate postures

Sessions meet select Weds evenings 6-9pm and select weekend intensives that run Fridays-Sundays as outlined below
Fridays 6pm-9pm; Saturdays 12pm-4:30pm; and Sundays 12pm-4pm

Aerial Teacher Trainees are expected to maintain a regular practice and will be eligible for a 25% discount on Aerial 10-Class Pack while enrolled in training.

Payment Plans:

Just Module 1: $300 non-refundable deposit due by Sept 5th (or upon enrollment if afterward); two additional payments of $330 due on Sept 26th and Oct 10th (automatically withdrawn)

Module 1 with Module 2: $500 non-refundable deposit due Sept 5th (or upon enrollment if afterward); three additional payments of $383.33 due Sept 26th, Oct 10th and Oct 31st (automatically withdrawn)

Katharine has been practicing yoga since 1999. She has explored many style of yoga, including Hatha, Bikram and Power Yoga before discovering Aerial Yoga in 2015. Katharine is a RYT-200 and holds a 60 Hour Aerial Yoga Teacher Certification. As Common Ground Yoga’s Aerial Yoga Program Coordinator, Katharine has been an integral part of growing the aerial yoga program at the studio, mentoring the aerial yoga staff and making aerial accessible to the community. She is incredibly passionate about aerial yoga and enjoys sharing her love of the practice with her students. She wants her students to know that even without a gymnastics or dance background, aerial yoga can be accessible and beneficial to anyone who wants to learn.
